With the holidays quickly approaching, I thought I’d share the answer to questions I receive about being able to afford a doula.
I ABSOLUTELY understand these types of questions.
I ABSOLUTELY understand the hesitation you may have about considering a doula because you just don’t think you can afford to have one.
While I can’t speak for all doulas, I can speak for myself and Pasadena Doula Associates.
So, before you throw out the idea of having a doula support you, let’s have a chat.
Let me share with you a few ways you absolutely can have a doula as a part of your birth team.
1. Payment Plans- Pasadena Doula Associates is happy to work with you regarding payment plans. The earlier you decide to sign your contract, the longer you have to pay your balance.
The payment method for this plan is post dated checks to be cashed on the agreed upon dates.
2. Ask For a Doula As a Gift- Birthdays, baby showers, holidays, etc. Ask for a doula as a gift. While one person my not be able to gift you the entire service, collectively, you just may get the whole doula fee paid! #Winning!

3. Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts- Your FSA or HSA, at work, may allow for reimbursement of doula fees. You would need to do a bit of research to confirm. Your Human Resources department is a great place to start.
You are provided with invoices to submit for reimbursement.
4. Insurance Reimbursement- Some health insurance plans will reimburse for doula services. Again, do your research before signing your doula contract.
